Adnan Naci Faydasıçok, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Hasçelik, stated that by adopting sustainability as a fundamental element of their business model, they continue their operations with an approach that takes environmental, social, and economic balances into account in steel production. He emphasized that in a world where the impacts of the global climate crisis are deepening, natural resources are becoming limited, and social expectations are transforming, they are acting with the vision of leading the sustainable transformation of industry.
Founded in 1968 and operating with a total of six production facilities in Kocaeli, Konya, and Bilecik, Hasçelik, one of Türkiye’s leading steel producers, has announced its 2024 Sustainability Report. Placing sustainability at the center of its business model, the company aims for a holistic transformation with environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Focusing on minimizing the negative environmental impacts of the steel industry, which is known for its energy intensity and high carbon emissions, Hasçelik aims to implement a cleaner, more efficient, and long-term sustainable production approach. The company’s sustainability-focused transformation process includes high-tech solutions to reduce its carbon footprint, systems that improve energy efficiency, and innovative production techniques. At the same time, the company is also pioneering sectoral transformation with steps taken towards green steel production.
“We put sustainability-based growth at the center”
Sharing his evaluations regarding the report, Adnan Naci Faydasıçok, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Hasçelik, stated that they adopt sustainability as a fundamental element of their business model and, by centering sustainability-based growth, act with an approach that reduces environmental impacts, prioritizes social contribution, and creates long-term value. Explaining that they carry out their operations with an approach that considers environmental, social, and economic balances in steel production, Faydasıçok underlined that they see sustainability not as a target to be achieved but as a journey shaped by continuous improvement and responsibility. Faydasıçok said, “In a world where the effects of the global climate crisis are deepening, natural resources are limited, and social expectations are transforming, we are progressing with the vision of leading the sustainable transformation of industry. The year 2024 has been a significant milestone for our company with the strategic steps we have taken in line with this vision.”
Drawing attention to the new-generation steel mill investment completed in Bilecik and started test production in April, Faydasıçok noted that they have implemented scrap preheating technology in Türkiye for the first time, thereby aiming to significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. He stated that this investment is not only a move to increase the company’s production capacity but also a critical leap in terms of reducing carbon emissions, energy efficiency, and digitalization-oriented transformation.
“We are positioning our R&D competence in line with the carbon-neutral production target”
Faydasıçok stated that they continue to implement projects that reduce environmental impacts in their sustainability journey, saying: “Our transition to sustainability-linked financing models enables us to support our investments in this field more strongly, while we are positioning our R&D competence in line with the carbon-neutral production target. We adopt sustainability criteria in our supply chain and redefine our way of doing business based on environmental and social impacts. We also see our human capital as the most important driving force of this transformation. In order to create a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable working environment, we are developing policies that support diversity and making occupational health and safety an integral part of our corporate culture.”
