HABAŞ's steelmaking plant project in Hatay reaches new stage in EIA process

A new stage has been reached in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for HABAŞ Sınai ve Tıbbi Gazlar İstihsal Endüstrisi A.Ş.'s planned HABAŞ Yeşilköy Steelmaking Plant project in Dörtyol, Hatay.

HABAŞ's steelmaking plant project in Hatay reaches new stage in EIA process

According to an announcement published by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report prepared for the project has been submitted to the Ministry, while the Review and Evaluation Commission (REC) meeting to assess the report will be held on August 20, 2026.

The Ministry stated that the commission, established under Article 12 of the EIA Regulation, will evaluate the project file from technical and environmental perspectives during the meeting. As part of the process, the opinions of the relevant institutions and organizations will be collected, while the EIA Report has also been opened for public review.

As previously reported by SteelRadar, the project, with an investment value of TRY 4.96 billion, involves the construction of a steelmaking plant with an annual crude steel production capacity of 1.75 million mt in Yeşilköy Neighborhood, Dörtyol district of Hatay.

The facility will use scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) technology and will produce steel billets through a ladle furnace and a continuous casting line. The project also includes the construction of dust collection and filtration systems, an industrial wastewater treatment plant, a closed-loop cooling system, scrap and raw material storage areas, and various auxiliary operating facilities.

The steel billets planned to be produced at the facility are intended to be processed at HABAŞ's rolling mills and integrated into the company's flat and long steel production chain.

Following the REC meeting, the EIA process will proceed to its next stage in line with the technical evaluations to be carried out by the commission. Upon completion of the process, the Ministry will issue either a "Positive EIA" or "Negative EIA" decision regarding the project.
