Public, private sector and academia met at the summit
The opening speeches of the event were delivered by Alikaan Çiftçi, President of the Nuclear Industry Association (NIATR); Anton Dedusenko, Board Chairman of Akkuyu Nükleer and CEO of Rosatom Energy International; Seyit Ardıç, President of Ankara Chamber of Industry; Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Rector of Istanbul Technical University; MA Mingjun, Vice President of China State Nuclear Power Technologies Corporation (SNPTC); and Salih Sarı, Acting Director General of Nuclear Energy and International Projects of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The opening speeches emphasized the strategic importance of nuclear energy for both energy supply security and a low-carbon future.
Strong participation from BRICS countries: First session attracted attention
The noteworthy session of the first day was the BRICS Nuclear Platform panel, which brought together organizations operating in the nuclear field from BRICS countries. While Elsie Pule from South Africa, Esra Songur from Russia, Hakan Görey from Türkiye, Hakan Görey from Türkiye, Fei Min from China physically took part in the session, officials from Brazil, South Africa and Ethiopia contributed via online connections. The session discussed issues such as nuclear technology transfer on a global scale, financing and integration of domestic production.
Rosatom's 80th anniversary celebrated
The first day of the event also celebrated the 80th anniversary of Rosatom's foundation. In a special section organized together with the brunch event, Russia's history in the nuclear field and its role in global projects were recalled. This event reinforced the structure of the Turkish-Russian nuclear cooperation that has developed through the Akkuyu project.
New technologies, SMRs and microreactors were on the agenda
On the second day of the event, small modular reactors (SMR), microreactor technologies and site assessment processes came to the fore. Gizem Özden, Director of Business Development at Assystem Türkiye, Justin Friedman from the US State Department, Narin Yüksek from the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center, and others shared information on solutions to meet the energy needs of the future. Presentations on Türkiye's efforts to create a local supplier ecosystem were also followed with interest.
Building a supply chain bridge between Italy and Türkiye
In the panel titled “Italian Nuclear Supply Chain Strategic Partner for the New Turkish NPP Projects”, Italian companies such as FACO SpA, Ansaldo Energia, CAELUS and ATB RIVA CALZONI discussed new cooperation and technology transfer opportunities with the Turkish side. The session offered important clues on how international technical partnerships will take shape in the development of nuclear infrastructure.
Memorandums of understanding and cooperation
Several collaborations were also officially announced during the event. ThorAtom and NAAREA signed their strategic partnership in the field of nuclear technology, while a new memorandum of understanding was signed between NIATR and the Bulgarian Atomic Forum. These developments showed that Türkiye has started to play an active role not only in nuclear power generation, but also in the global supply chain and technological development.
