The GFG Alliance has announced that it will be making efforts to develop its iron ore mining operations in Whyalla, South Australia, and is directly targeting the production of green steel from hydrogen.
Additionally, GFG planned to deploy more workforce to the Whyalla mining and steelworks operations to increase its magnetite iron ore mining output by more than tenfold. Magnetite will be able to apply directly to reduction, avoiding the highly polluting traditional method of producing steel in a blast furnace.
GFG aims to increase its annual production from 2.5 million tons to 30 million tons in 2030.
