Gerdau, a Brazilian steelmaker, has chosen Danieli Corus for the modernization of blast furnace #1 at its Ouro Branco integrated steel plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Contracts have been signed for two modernization projects, which will focus on upgrading various components including the furnace hearth, bosh area, and casthouse runners cooling system.
Gerdau and Danieli Corus have built a strong relationship over the years through successful consultancy and modernization projects in blast furnace and converter areas.
Drawing on previous assessments and erosion modeling of the furnace hearth, Danieli Corus has developed a new hearth design utilizing large carbon blocks. The aim is to extend the lifetime of the hearth to over 15 years.
