Fuel prices increased in Kazakhstan, thousands of people took to the streets!

Thousands of people took to the streets in many cities of the country after the increase in fuel prices with the new year in Kazakhstan.

The demonstrations that started in the Zhanaozen region, the center of the oil industry, then spread to the city of Aktau, while the Kazakh police closed the squares in Almaty, the country's largest city, to entrances and exits.

It was stated that mobile internet was also restricted in the center of Almaty.

It is stated that after the demonstrations, gas station owners in the Mangystau region agreed to reduce prices, while demonstrators argue that these cuts are not enough.

Kazakhstan leader Tokayev made a statement and said that they are working to find a solution to the issue and that they want to maintain stability in the country. Tokayev also urged the demonstrators to act responsibly.

Kazakhstan is seen as one of the countries with the toughest laws in the region on street demonstrations. According to Kazakh law, those who want to organize a demonstration must obtain permission from state institutions before going out on the streets.
