The European Union's steel industry performed strongly in 2024, producing a total of 11.1 million tons of crude steel in June.

The European Union (EU) continued its strong performance in the sector, producing 11.1 million tons of crude steel in June 2024. This figure represents an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2023. Sources described the rise in EU crude steel production as an indication of the economic recovery in the region and the revival of industrial production.

The EU's total crude steel production between January and June 2024 was recorded at 67.2 tons. This figure was observed as an increase of 0.9% compared to the same period of 2023. Thus, the EU continues to maintain its steady performance in steel production and maintains its position as one of the key players in the global steel industry.

This positive momentum in EU steel production will continue to contribute positively to overall economic growth in the region and reflects the general strengthening of industrial production, sources noted. Given future trade and economic policies, the EU's steel production performance will also play a critical role in maintaining its competitiveness in the global market.

Germany, which stands out among the top steel producing countries, produced 3.2 million tons of crude steel in June 2024. This performance of Germany was recorded as a significant decrease of 8.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
