EU Commission: Clear response to CBAM delay rumors!

The European Federation of Steel and Metal Distribution, Trade and Stockholding (EUROMETAL) has urgently requested a statement from the European Commission following recent press reports and market rumors about a possible delay of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

EU Commission: Clear response to CBAM delay rumors!

SteelRadar had previously published assessments regarding the rumors circulating in the market. To confirm the rumors about a possible CBAM delay, EUROMETAL urgently requested a statement from the European Commission. In response, DG TAXUD Director-General of the Commission’s Tax Department clearly confirmed to EUROMETAL that the current legislative timetable remains unchanged:

“CBAM’s entry into force on January 1, 2026, is EU law. However, this can only be changed by a legal proposal from the European Commission and the approval of both the European Parliament and the European Council. No such proposal exists.”

The Commission also clearly stated that it will not comment on circulating rumors.

This statement confirms that the financial phase of CBAM is planned to commence as scheduled on January 1, 2026, in accordance with current regulations.

EUROMETAL announced that it will continue to closely monitor CBAM implementation and provide its members with regular updates as official information becomes available.
