Emsteel has announced that it is the first company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to earn the ResponsibleSteel™ Core Site certification.
The certification was granted after an extensive assessment carried out by CARES, an internationally accredited certification body. The evaluation reviewed the company’s compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.
This achievement follows Emsteel’s recent recognition by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) as a “Steel Sustainability Champion” for the second consecutive year. Emsteel remains the only company in the MENA region to receive this title back-to-back.
Annie Heaton, CEO of ResponsibleSteel, stated that this marks the first certification of its kind in the MENA region and sets a new benchmark for the regional steel industry. CARES CEO Lee Brankley noted that Emsteel has met ResponsibleSteel’s ESG standards.
ResponsibleSteel is the steel industry’s first global multi-stakeholder standard and certification initiative, assessing areas such as responsible sourcing, climate change, diversity, human rights, and environmental management.
