United Kingdom
Wire mesh prices in the UK have increased compared to last week's average wire mesh prices, according to market participants.
UK wire mesh prices, which were announced at 598.00 USD on January 12, 2024, increased on January 17, 2024.
On January 17, 2024, UK steel mesh prices were traded at 605.00 USD, an increase of 7 USD.
Italy
Efforts by producers in Italy aimed to drive up rebar prices have so far failed due to weak demand. Suppliers have been unable to raise prices as buyers have delayed their purchases despite higher scrap offers. Rebar demand in Italy remains very low due to uncertain market conditions. January 17, 2024 www.steelradar.com evaluated the Italian rebar price at 595 euros.
Italian scrap prices have increased, following the upward trend reported on the international markets. Generally, Italian producers are trying to restrain the increase in scrap prices. However, due to the low buying activity in December, some producers' stocks are quite low, so they have to pay to get enough scrap. In Italy, scrap prices increased by an average of EUR 10-20/t during the month. In January's buying campaign, E3 was traded at EUR 360-370/t delivered.
Prices of €665-675 per tonne/CPT for drawn quality wire rod and €655 per tonne/CPT for web quality wire rod were noted.
Spain
After rising by USD 15 last December, rebar continues to trade at a stable level of €595, a level it has reached for weeks.
Hot rolled and cold rolled coil prices are also stable, with HRC (hot rolled coil) at €700 and CRC (cold rolled coil) at €800, according to SteelRadar data.
Germany
Scrap prices in Germany continued rising in January, following the upward trend in the international market. E3 scrap, which was around 330 EUR/t in December, increased by 25-30 EUR/t on average during January. In January, the delivered price for E40 was 355-360 EUR/t. This was mainly due to the high price level observed in Türkiye in the last few weeks.
For hot rolled coil, local prices reached EUR 745/mt ex-works Ruhr in the middle of last week, SteelRadar reported.
Benelux
The HMS 1/2 (80:20) increased by USD 13 from €320 at the start of the week on January 15, according to SteelRadar data.
During the week, HMS 1/2 traded at €333, as the market was not very volatile.
Poland
Following the winter break, Polish long steel producers started the new year with higher rebar prices but the new levels were not accepted by local customers due to weak demand from consumer sectors. Overall, the situation remains challenging despite the upward trend in the Polish rebar market, as business activity in the segment remains weak. Local offer prices for 12-32 mm rebar from Polish steel mills ranged from EUR 635/t CPT at the end of December to EUR 655-666/t CPT at the moment.
Import offers from Italy are also reportedly at €656-667 ($720-732) per tonne CPT.
Import wire rod was largely unchanged this week in the range of 3,100-3,300 zloty (€704-750) per tonne CPT.
Netherlands
HMS 1/2 80:20 settled down by USD 2 in the Netherlands and remained stable at $390 during the week. According to SteelRadar's latest assessments on January 18, HMS 1/2 is reported down by USD 1 at $389.
