Containers handled at Turkish ports decreased in April

Containers handled at Turkish ports in April 2025 decreased by 3% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 1 million 96 thousand 362 TEU.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure General Directorate of Maritime Affairs announced container and cargo statistics for April.

According to the published data, a total of 4 million 451 thousand 227 TEU containers were handled in ports between January-April 2025. This figure indicated a 0.7% decrease compared to the same period of the previous year.

In April, the amount of containers sent from ports to foreign ports increased by 6.4% to 394 thousand 495 TEU, while the amount of containers arriving from foreign ports increased by 1.9% to 427 thousand 284 TEU. In this context, total foreign trade container traffic increased by 4% to 821 thousand 779 TEU.

In the same period, transit container transportation decreased by 21.4% to 207 thousand 72 TEU and cabotage container transportation decreased by 12.3% to 67 thousand 511 TEU.

On the other hand, total cargo handled at ports in April decreased by 3.2% to 43 million 653 thousand 819 tons. In January-April period, total cargo handled increased by 1.4% to 181 million 904 thousand 970 tons.
