Kazadi said that the government is in active negotiations with representatives of the giant Tenke Fungurume (TFM) copper and cobalt mine of Sicomines, a cobalt and copper joint venture with Chinese state-owned firms, and China's CMOC Group Ltd.
"It's important for us to have an open agreement because this is what we have to finance our development at the moment," Kazadi said.
President Felix Tshisekedi's government is reconsidering a 2007 agreement signed by his predecessor, Joseph Kabila, in which Sinohydro Corp and China Railway Group Limited agreed to build roads and hospitals in exchange for a 68% stake in the Sicomines venture, as well as a 2008 contract with the CMOC.
