US based steel producer Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has announced that it will appeal the jury verdict in its antitrust case with California-based Pacific Steel Group (PSG), which ruled in favor of PSG.
The lawsuit was filed after PSG accused CMC of restricting competition and attempting to monopolize the rebar market in California. In 2024, the jury ruled in favor of PSG, awarding USD 110 million in damages. Under U.S. antitrust laws, this amount can be tripled, potentially bringing the total damages to USD 330 million.
On September 29, 2025, the court rejected CMC’s motions challenging the verdict and upheld the jury’s decision. CMC stated that its business practices are ethical and compliant with the law, and announced it will appeal to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The company also emphasized that it will continue to defend its position despite numerous risk factors, including economic and sectoral fluctuations.
