This project marks the first electric arc furnace for Jiyuan Iron & Steel and represents a significant step in the company’s transition from its traditional blast furnace and basic oxygen furnace-based production model to low-carbon and environmentally friendly steelmaking. With this new investment, the company aims to achieve a fundamental transformation of its production structure.
A long-established producer of special steels, Jiyuan Iron & Steel continues to focus on high-end product development, environmentally friendly production processes, and intelligent manufacturing systems. The successful completion of previous continuous casting and rolling projects between Jiyuan and Danieli has strengthened the partnership between the two companies and played a key role in the selection of Danieli’s ECS Zerobucket technology for this new investment.
The ECS Zerobucket electric arc furnace to be supplied will incorporate advanced melting technologies. The system is designed to minimize energy losses and off-gas leakages through its horizontal continuous scrap charging feature. In addition, a scrap preheating tunnel utilizing high-temperature off-gases will maximize energy recovery while reducing overall electricity consumption.
The furnace will also be equipped with advanced automatic process control systems. These systems will optimize power input and melting parameters to ensure a more stable and efficient production process, with the aim of improving both operational performance and product quality.
Danieli’s ECS Zerobucket solution offers significant advantages compared to conventional bucket-charged electric arc furnaces. The technology substantially reduces electricity consumption and carbon emissions while minimizing the formation of harmful gases, including dioxins. As such, it is regarded as a solution aligned with the steel industry’s increasingly important clean production and low-carbon objectives.
Through the new EAF project, Jiyuan Iron & Steel aims to establish a more efficient and environmentally friendly special steel production process. The company also plans to improve product quality and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
The agreement also marks a new stage in the long-term cooperation between Danieli and Jiyuan Iron & Steel. Leveraging its strong local manufacturing capabilities, after-sales services, and expertise in special steel production, Danieli will support the commissioning of the new facility, production ramp-up, and operational processes. This support is intended to optimize plant performance and help achieve sustainable production goals.
With this order, the number of Danieli ECS Zerobucket electric arc furnace references across China has reached 32.
