China’s stainless steel exports increased by 33,7% in September

According to the recent data from China’s customs, the country’s stainless steel imports decreased in September, while its exports increased.

China’s stainless steel exports increased by 33,7% in September

According to recent data from China's customs, the country's stainless steel trade showed contrasting movements in September. Imports reached approximately 120,000 tons, reflecting a decline of 20.4% from August and a 48.2% drop compared to September of the previous year.

On the other hand, exports of stainless steel in September stood at about 459,000 tons. This represented a m-o-m decrease of 6%, but a y-o-y rise of 33.7%, indicating growing overseas demand despite recent fluctuations.

In the first nine months of 2024, China imported an estimated 1.45 million tons of stainless steel, achieving a slight increase of 4.4% compared to the same period in 2023. Export figures during this period were more robust, climbing by 19.8% y-o-y to reach a total of 3.7 million tons.

The overall domestic consumption of stainless steel in the first nine months of the year was reported at around 23.6 million tons, marking a modest rise of 1.28% compared to the same timeframe last year.
