According to statistics from China Customs, China’s iron ore imports amounted to around 268.4 million tons in the first three months of this year, decreasing by 5.2% compared to the same period a year ago.
In March only, the imports totaled roughly 87.3 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 14.5%.
China’s demand for iron ore was impacted by the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic that happened in early March, which led to a blockade in Shanghai and strict prevention and control measures in other regions of China.
