China's crude steel production increased by 3%

Crude steel production of the seven largest producing cities in China increased by 3% in the January-August period of 2023 compared to the same period of 2022. Total volumes reached 713 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2023, compared to 693 million tonnes in the same period of 2022.

China's crude steel production remained at high levels throughout the year. It increased by 4.1% in the January-April period, 1.6% in the January-May period and 1.3% in the January-June period. Despite the crisis caused by the real estate sector in China, steel production remained at higher levels than in 2022. Among the reasons for the increase in steel production was the excess demand from China's infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.

In Hebei, which is among the country's most important steel-producing provinces, production in the January-August 2023 period reached approximately 154 million tons, with an annual increase of 4% compared to 148 million tons in January-August 2022.

In another province, Jiangsu, production increased by 5% on an annual basis and reached 85 million tons.
