TÜRKÇİMENTO announced the highly anticipated current data of the sector. According to this; In the January-May 2021 period, the production of the cement industry increased by 32.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Cement production was announced as 29 million 696 thousand tons in the January-May period of 2021.
TÜRKÇİMENTO, which represents 94 percent of the industry, announced the first 5-month production and sales figures of its members. According to this; In the 5-month period of 2021, the cement production of the union members reached 29 million 696 thousand tons with an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the previous year. Domestic sales, on the other hand, increased by 37.1% to 22 million 403 thousand tons. Approximately 22.9 percent of the cement produced in the first 5 months of the year was exported.
In the statement made by TÜRKÇİMENTO, it was stated that sales throughout Turkey continued to increase in all regions. Pointing out that the industry shrank by 11 percent in 2018 and by 29 percent in 2019, for the first time in its history for two consecutive years, the statement noted that nearly 40 million tons of excess capacity had emerged at the end of 2020.
According to the statement; Due to this contraction, the sector turned to exports in 2020. However, export is not preferred by the sector as sustainability is risky. Therefore, the increase in production and domestic sales was welcomed by the sector.
In the statement, it was stated that the results of the Construction Materials Industry Index published by IMSAD indicate that there is an increase in both activities and expectations in the construction sector, and that this situation will have a positive effect on the construction sector in the coming period.
