Business world focused on climate crisis and energy efficiency

The “Sustainable Energy Financing Program within the Scope of the European Green Agreement Against the Climate Crisis”, in which opinions focused on “climate and development should come together” were held with the organization of the Aegean Young Business People Association (EGİAD).

At the meeting; energy efficiency, climate change, Turkey Sustainable Energy Financing Program (TurSEFF) studies, the process of the European Union Green Agreement in Turkey were discussed.

Turkey Sustainable Energy Financing Fund (TURSEFF) Financial Institutions Relations Manager Seyran Hatipoğlu stated that as an institution, 695 million euros sustainable energy financing as of 2021, 2 thousand 131 sustainable energy projects, 601 MW total installed renewable energy power, 993 thousand households consumed in a year. He noted that energy savings equal to the amount of electricity and emission reductions equal to the annual carbon emissions of 1 million 100 thousand cars were made.

THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE LAST 142 YEARS EXPERIENCED IN JULY 2021
Commenting on the climate crisis, Hatipoğlu pointed out that in July 2021, the highest temperature of the last 142 years was experienced.

“EVERY YEAR, 26 MILLION PEOPLE ARE DROPPED TO POVERTY BY REPLACEMENT”
Hatipoğlu said, “According to the calculations of the World Bank, the real cost of these disasters to the global economy is approximately 520 billion dollars a year, while 26 million people are driven into poverty every year for the same reasons. Integrating sustainability into investment preferences is vital for all financial institutions in order to minimize losses. It is known that if no measures are taken, the world economy may shrink by 18 percent in the next 30 years due to climate change. Turkey's risk in this context is 10.3%. Therefore, climate and development must now go together.” he said.

TURSEFF CREATED CLOSE TO 700 MILLION EURO FINANCE
It was also emphasized at the meeting that TurSEFF, which is one of the most important milestones in Turkey's transition to a green economy, has created a financing of nearly 700 million Euros for more than 2,100 projects in total as of today.
