British Steel, which operates under the control of the UK Government, has announced plans to hire more than 180 new employees as part of plans to increase production. The company aims to significantly increase iron and steel production in the coming months as it secures the raw materials to sustain production with two blast furnaces.
The vacancies range from engineering, environment, chemistry, cleaning, legal, physical labor, occupational health and safety. This includes 165 positions at Scunthorpe and 17 positions at sites in Teesside and Skinningrove.
British Steel Interim CEO Allan Bell stated, “We will be hiring more than 180 people to increase production and meet customer demand. This is an exciting step that will build the future of our company and the UK economy.”
Opportunities include electrical and mechanical engineering, shift production, technical and managerial roles, as well as welding, nursing and customer service. British Steel says it offers competitive salaries as well as extensive training and career development opportunities.
To support the recruitment process, British Steel will be holding an open day on Saturday 17 May 2025 at the Conference Centre on Brigg Road in Scunthorpe. The event will take place from 10.00-16.00, with experts presenting career opportunities within the company and answering questions from attendees. No advance registration is required for the event; those interested can simply attend directly.
