Structural engineers BHC laid steel at Nigg Port as part of Sumitomo Electric’s massive new project. With the facility set to be completed next year, the aim is to meet the growing demand for high-quality cables in the region.
BHC is also responsible for the metal decking, concrete overlay, and exterior cladding of the buildings, as well as the specialized coatings applied to the steel before it is shipped to the site.
Phil Knowles, Commercial Director of Sumitomo Electric Construction, expressed their satisfaction with the contributions to the project, stating, “We are excited to supply parts for this major project through BHC. We take pride in supporting the UK’s manufacturing industry and working with our partners to highlight the importance of British steel in developments like this.”
The factory will produce cables for offshore wind farms and electricity grid connections, providing employment for hundreds of people and significantly boosting the local economy.
