Both domestic sales and exports contracted in Türkiye's white goods sector

Domestic sales in Türkiye's white goods sector decreased by 15%, while the contraction trend in exports continued.

Both domestic sales and exports contracted in Türkiye's white goods sector

The White Goods Manufacturers' Association of Türkiye (TÜRKBESD) shared industry data and assessments for the first quarter of 2025. The association, which includes many domestic and foreign brands such as Arçelik, BSH, Dyson, Electrolux, Haier Europe, LG, Miele, Samsung, Versuni (Philips) and Vestel, emphasized that the sector is facing difficulties both in the domestic market and in exports.

According to TÜRKBESD data, domestic sales declined by 15% in the January-March period compared to the same period last year. The contraction trend in exports continued and there was a 3% decrease on a unit basis. Total production decreased by 4%.

The decrease continued in March as well

Data specific to March also showed a weak picture across the sector. Domestic sales decreased by 17% compared to the same month of the previous year. Exports, on the other hand, experienced a limited increase due to the base effect and increased by 2 %. Production units decreased by 6% in this month.

Three-year decrease in exports continues

The third consecutive year of decreasing exports is negatively affecting Türkiye's strong global position in the white goods sector. The continued weakening in domestic market demand, which has compensated for the losses in exports in recent years, makes 2025 an even more challenging year for the sector.

The sector needs supportive structural policies

Economic tensions in major markets such as the US and China have increased uncertainties in foreign trade, while the contraction in export markets and high cost pressures continue to put pressure on the sector. TÜRKBESD officials pointed out that structural and long-term policies to support both exports and domestic demand are needed more than ever to maintain production capacity, competitiveness and employment.
