BlueScope and Rio Tinto are jointly exploring the use of hydrogen to replace coking coal in the steel production process at BlueScope's Port Kembla Steel Mill. The companies will also explore the production of low-carbon steel using Pilbara iron ore.
BlueScope and Rio Tinto plan to turn iron ore into products that can be processed in an electric melter. Kembla Steelworks has begun work to use green hydrogen as it produces emission-free renewable energy.
