Blastr moves into new phase for green steel investment in Finland

Blastr Green Steel aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the steel industry with an integrated green steel value chain in Scandinavia.

Blastr moves into new phase for green steel investment in Finland

The Finnish city of Inkoo has taken an important step towards its green transformation goals. Inkoo City Council approved the Joddböle V development plan, which regulates the land use of the Joddböle industrial zone. At the same time, a land use agreement was signed between Blastr Green Steel, the landowners in the area and Inkoo Municipality, which includes cost-sharing for the implementation of the development plan.

The Joddböle V development plan allows for the construction of a low-emission steel mill and hydrogen production facility planned by Blastr. The plan also gives the green light to other industrial activities, including the utilization of by-products of steel production.

The project will now move to the next stage, where formal applications for environmental impact, water use and construction permits will be submitted.

Antti Kaikkonen, Managing Director of Blastr Finland, stated: "The development of the Joddböle industrial area is of great importance for us and for other actors in the region. We have cooperated in good faith with all parties and I believe that we have created a solid foundation for the responsible and sustainable realization of the project,"

The Finnish government has also shown its support for the project with a EUR 6 million infrastructure investment announced in April.

"Blastr's project is important both regionally and nationally. It is gratifying that the government sees the Joddböle industrial area as an engine for sustainable growth," Kaikkonen noted.
