Belgium to shut down nuclear power plants by 2025

It has been reported that the Belgian government will close all nuclear reactors in the country by 2025. According to Belgian media, the 7-party coalition has reached an agreement in the negotiations on the closure of the reactors for weeks.

During the talks, it was stated that the Greens wanted to respect the law enacted in 2003, which stipulates the closing of the nuclear page, while the Liberals in the French-speaking section wanted 2 reactors to remain open.

It was noted that after the talks held throughout the night, the parties reached a consensus on closing the reactors by 2025. In addition, it is planned to invest 100 million euros over 4 years in nuclear energy technology research, with an emphasis on smaller modular reactors.

It is not yet known how the country will fill the energy deficit that will occur.
