Bad news for Volkswagen from the USA

ABD'de Yüksek Mahkeme, Alman otomobil üreticisi Volkswagen'in emisyon testi manipülasyonundan kaynaklanan 3 eyaletteki tazminat taleplerine ilişkin temyiz başvurusunu reddetti

Bad news for Volkswagen from the USA

Bad news from the American judiciary for the German automotive giant Volkswagen, which has filed an appeal for compensation claims arising from emissions test manipulation in 3 states of the USA. The U.S. Supreme Court has reported that an appeal by Volkswagen and German auto supplier Robert Bosch LLC over decisions in lower courts in Florida and Utah that could impose penalties on the automaker for diesel manipulation was dismissed.

The Supreme Court also dismissed Volkswagen's appeal against a similar action in the state of Ohio.

The US Environmental Protection Agency announced in September 2015 that Volkswagen had manipulated emissions tests and that the company's diesel vehicles were polluting the environment 40 times higher than normal.

Acknowledging the use of deceptive software in the emission tests of millions of diesel-powered vehicles around the world, Volkswagen was sentenced to a high amount of fines by the US court. The company had to pay more than $20 billion in lawsuits caused by the emissions scandal.

Accused of deceiving the Environmental Protection Agency and violating local laws, Volkswagen argued that only the federal government could pursue such claims under the Clean Air Act against state lawsuits.
