Automotive exports to EU countries increased in the first quarter

Automotive exports to European Union countries increased by 25.5% in the first quarter. The Turkish automotive sector made approximately 70 percent of its exports in the first 3 months of the year to European Union (EU) countries.

According to the compilation he made from the records of Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association and Turkish Exporters' Assembly, the sector sold products to more than 190 countries, autonomous and free zones in the January-March period.

The exports of the automotive industry increased by 15.8 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period of 2022 and increased from 7 billion 445 million 40 thousand dollars to 8 billion 619 million 158 thousand dollars.

The sector took a 14 percent share from Turkey's total exports of 61 billion 587 million 868 thousand dollars in the first quarter.

Nearly 70 percent of automotive exports go to EU countries

On a country-by-country basis, the EU region ranked first with a 69.94 percent share in Turkey's automotive exports in the January-March period of this year.

In this period, exports to EU countries increased by 25.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and increased from 4 billion 804 million 808 thousand dollars to 6 billion 28 million 688 thousand dollars. EU countries maintained their position as the most important market in automotive exports.

Foreign sales to the "other European countries" group, which the United Kingdom is included in after leaving the EU, increased by 4.4 percent to 972 million 366 thousand dollars.

United Kingdom, the third largest exporting country

Looking at the countries to which the most exports were made in the first quarter of the year, Germany, the main market of the Turkish automotive industry, became the country with the highest automotive exports with an increase of approximately 15.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The amount of automotive exports from Turkey to Germany, which was recorded as 1 billion 98 million 992 thousand dollars in the first three months last year, increased to 1 billion 273 million 316 thousand dollars in the same period of this year.

Exports to France, which is the EU country to which the most exports are made after Germany, increased by 72.8%. Automotive exports to France, which amounted to 607 million 505 thousand dollars in 3 months last year, reached 1 billion 49 million 501 thousand dollars in the first quarter of this year.

In January-March 2023, 766 million 551 thousand dollars were exported to Italy, 603 million 74 thousand dollars to Spain, 406 million 840 thousand dollars to Poland, 389 million 34 thousand dollars to Slovenia, 351 million 324 thousand dollars to Belgium.

EU countries made 7 of the top 10 exporting countries.
