However, weak construction activity, tax burdens, and the impact of low-cost Chinese imports continued to put pressure on the domestic market.
Crude steel production in Argentina reached 399,400 metric tons (mt) in May 2026. This figure represents an increase compared to 387,400 mt in April 2026, while also rising by 14% compared to May 2025.
In the flat and long steel product segments, monthly increases were notable. Hot-rolled coil (HRC) production rose by 48.5% month-on-month to 192,000 mt, while cold-rolled coil (CRC) production increased by 8.5% to 102,500 mt. Long steel production also grew by 6.1% month-on-month, reaching 133,800 mt.
However, on a year-on-year basis, both CRC and long steel production declined by 9.8%.
In terms of sectoral outlook, energy and agriculture sectors continued to support effective steel demand, while the domestic market remained under pressure due to weak construction activity, tax-related financial burdens, and the increasing impact of low-cost Chinese imports, which negatively affected steel consumption in the local automotive industry.
