ArcelorMittal Corporation has postponed the start-up of blast furnace No. 4 at its Dunkirk steel plant in France from May to mid-June 2023. According to the plan, the blast furnace will reach operating capacity in July.
The furnace had to be shut down urgently at the end of March due to a fire. It is now actively preparing to start operating. Cleaning is 70 per cent complete, new electrical wiring has been installed in the workshop and repairs to the south wing of the workshop are underway.
It is the most productive of the three blast furnaces currently operating in Dunkirk, with a known capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per year.
In March, a fire also broke out at the ArcelorMittal Gijon steel plant in Spain. As a result, the company was forced to halt production at rolling mills across the country.
