ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) announced the start of a major investment project worth Rs 85 billion ($1.13 billion) at its Hazira steel mill in Gujarat, India.
It is recommended to build a large complex for sheet metal production with high added value. Some of the steel products planned to be launched will be new to the national market. Commissioning of the entire complex is scheduled for 2024.
The production line will start with a pickling line and a tandem cold rolling mill with an annual capacity of 2 million tons. Finished cold rolled products will be used in the next three lines.
The first of these will include aluminum-silicone coating application lines with an annual capacity of 1 million tons, with increased annealing and anti-corrosion resistance. Galvanized rolled products will be produced on two other hot-dip galvanizing lines with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. At the same time, in one of them, the products will undergo subsequent annealing, which will make it possible to obtain a high-quality automatic sheet.
In 2021, approximately 7.5 million tons of steel was melted at the Hazira plant. In 2021 AM/NS India applied for environmental permit to increase its capacity to 14.4 Mtpa.
