ArcelorMittal Jinxi New Materials (Changzhou) officially unveiled its “AMORNEX” brand on September 9, 2026. Established jointly by ArcelorMittal and China Oriental Group, the company will develop new energy magnetic material solutions focused on electrical steel.
Located in the Binjiang Economic Development Zone in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, the project is planned to have a total annual electrical steel production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes. The first phase of the project will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of high-performance non-oriented electrical steel.
Transition from construction to equipment installation
According to the latest information released in September, the plant’s main structure has largely been prepared for equipment installation. Pile foundations, the main plant foundation, steel structures and equipment foundations for the main production line have been completed, while overhead cranes inside the plant have also been installed. As a result, the project has shifted its focus from construction to equipment installation.
The base plate of the CTCM six-high tandem cold rolling mill, one of the plant’s key production units, has been installed and alignment work has been carried out. Installation of the rolling mill stands is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2026. Alongside construction activities, customer discussions, technical approval processes for products and marketing activities are also underway.
Production scheduled to start in 2027
Construction of the plant began in September 2025, with production targeted to commence in mid-2027. The electrical steel products to be manufactured under the AMORNEX brand are planned for use in drive motors for new energy vehicles, high-efficiency industrial motors, power generation equipment, premium home appliances, servo motors for robots and advanced air mobility vehicles.
