The new line, established in Chita, Aichi Prefecture, transfers post forging processes from the Shibukawa facility in Gunma Prefecture to the Chita No. 2 facility. The company aims to improve production efficiency through an automated transfer system connecting the new equipment and processes.
A ceremony was held on August 17 with the participation of company officials to mark the completion of the new line. The investment is part of a project with a total value of approximately JPY 36 billion aimed at restructuring Daido Steel’s production system for high alloy products.
As part of the project, a new four direction forging press, one of the largest of its kind in Japan, is being installed at the Shibukawa facility. The company is also increasing high alloy melting capacity at the facility and carrying out renovation work to automate processing and inspection lines.
At the Chita No. 2 facility, two special melting units for high quality steel production have been added, along with the commissioning of the new heat treatment, processing and inspection line.
Daido Steel aims to obtain Asia’s first “Prime” certification for nickel based alloy materials used in large rotating components and turbo pumps for aerospace engines.
The Shibukawa facility carries out Daido Steel’s open die forging operations and the initial melting of high alloy products. In addition to high alloys, the facility produces stainless and tool steels, forged and rolled products such as bars, as well as forged components shaped into shafts or discs according to customer requirements.
As part of the project, the company plans to make the Shibukawa facility its main melting center for high alloy products and specialize the facility in the production of shaped forged products.
