African tradesmen come to Istanbul for purchase

700 buyers, mostly SMEs, from 41 African countries will meet with Turkish companies at the WCI Forum to be held in Istanbul on September 15-16. WCI Forum President Utku Bengisu said, “It is not enough to focus on commercial diplomacy in exports. The tradesmen with great potential are being forgotten. Our goal is to invite this segment to Turkey and increase exports,” he said.

Africa, the market of world trade with a high development potential, is also very attractive for Turkish companies. As the developing middle class, especially in the continent, turns to trade, Turkey's chances of exporting to this region are increasing day by day. There is an export of more than 15 billion dollars from Turkey to the continent, the target is to exceed 20 billion dollars this year. Utku Bengisu, the entrepreneur who discovered the potential in Africa many years ago and founded Boğaziçi Specialized Fair Organization in 2011, traveled the continent every inch of the continent, got to know the SMEs in the cities and created a portfolio for himself here. It builds a bridge between them.

The fair will be a full Turkey-Africa meeting. We have participants from 60 cities in Turkey. Participation is high because we have been in and out of all OIZs in Turkey for 5 months, we went to exporters' unions and chambers of commerce. 220 Turkish companies are coming from Diyarbakır to Edirne. There will be 500-700 buyers from 41 countries in Africa. On the African side, the construction sector ranks first, followed by food and textiles. There is also a high demand from the FMCG sector, machinery spare parts and automotive spare parts. Furniture and durable consumption are also at a good rate.

MURITANIAN groceries are also coming
Does the FMCG sector have a high purchasing potential?

"The logic of a very large supermarket is not common in Africa. But we discovered an interesting vein in this area. There are 1,200 Mauritanian grocers on the Ivory Coast alone. They are grocery stores, but each of them has a warehouse, all goods from A to Z are available. Wholesalers too. We discovered these families and invited them to Istanbul. There is a demand network from cleaning materials to diapers. I asked them, 'We didn't even think of buying goods from Turkey, we buy from China, the EU or Dubai.' Here is our aim. attracting these buyers to Turkey."
