Acciaierie d’Italia restarts no. 2 blast furnace at Taranto

In a statement, Acciaierie d’Italia, currently under extraordinary administration, announced that the unit was brought back online following the completion of preparatory works launched on 10 February 2026.

As of 11 February, testing, reheating, and furnace charging processes had been completed. The restart of the blast furnace was described as critical for production capacity. Company management emphasized that the step is part of efforts to ensure operational continuity in the current period and to safeguard industrial activity and employment.

Since February 2024, more than EUR 997 million has been allocated for maintenance and industrial investments at the facilities in Taranto. These investments are aimed at restoring full functionality of the production infrastructure.

It was also reported that throughout 2025, total working hours at the industrial complex in Taranto carried out by both company personnel and third-party contractors—reached the highest level in recent years.

The ongoing works are intended to secure production continuity and ensure efficient plant operations ahead of the conclusion of the current tender processes.
