$302 million support for 'Hybrid' project

The Hybrit project, a collaborative venture between Swedish companies SSAB, LKAB and energy company Vattenfall, has made a significant step forward in support of the country's energy policies. The project, which focuses on industrial-scale production of sponge iron without the use of fossil fuels, received a grant of 3.1 billion Swedish kronor ($302 million) from the Swedish Energy Agency's Industrial Innovation program.

The first demonstration facility, which will be built in the city of Gällivare, aims to offer an environmentally friendly approach by eliminating the use of fossil fuels in steel production. LKAB is the main beneficiary of the project, taking responsibility for building the plant. The application for the Hybrid project was originally submitted for 4.9 billion Swedish kronor, but was later corrected to 3.7 billion Swedish kronor. Sources have stated that fossil-free sponge iron production is critical for Sweden's climate goals and competitiveness.

This investment in the Hybrid project in the field of state support stands out with the Swedish government's support for sustainable technologies and climate-friendly solutions, while the project aims to make a strong contribution to fossil fuel reduction and environmental protection efforts at the national level.
