Glencore ceases operations in Peru

The company said in a press release that yesterday's events endangered the safety of its employees and therefore authorities must take action to protect personal privacy and private property rights.

Prior to this event, the Glencore mine, one of the largest mines in the country, was operating with only 38% of its workforce due to the protests. Less than a week ago, activists raided a water facility in Antapakkaya and set it on fire.

Given the number of attacks, including the closure of roads, in the first half of January, shipments of mineral copper concentrate were halted. This was followed by MMG's Las Bambas, which shared port access with Antapaccay.
