Germany's crude steel production increased by 15% y-o-y in January 2026.

Germany's crude steel production increased in January

According to data from the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl), production reached approximately 3.1 million tonnes, marking a 15% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

BOF (basic oxygen furnace) production rose by 19.3% to 2.2 million tonnes, EAF (electric arc furnace) production increased by 5.5% to 870,000 tonnes, and pig iron production grew by 18.8% to 2.0 million tonnes. The increase in hot-rolled steel products remained more limited, at 3.2%.

The German Steel Federation stated that total production remains approximately 5% below the ten-year average, while electric steel production is about 11% below its ten-year average, indicating that the sector is still operating well below its long-term levels.
