The American company Gerdau decided to suspend the production of its long-products plant in Whitby, Ontario for 6 weeks from the end of April. Prior to the steel mill work, it was reported that the rolling mill's rolling operations would be out of service for two weeks.
During this period, the U.S. company announced that it would increase the production capacity and quality of the electric arc furnace (EAF) mill and that other Gerdau factories would cover the damage at Whitby's plant to avoid interruptions to customers.
