Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau has announced the resumption of steelmaking operations at its plant in Paraná, Araucária. The cost of the investment was said to be about 55 million Brazilian reals.
With an annual crude steel capacity of 420,000 tonnes, the plant has not been in operation since 2014 and will continue to operate gradually with volumes adjusted to the development of the local market.
The resumption of production reflected the positive scenario of steel demand in Brazil, especially in the construction, infrastructure and industrial sectors. According to the company, the resumption creates about 300 new direct and indirect jobs.
