The plant, which will have an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, is planned to commence commercial operations in 2029.

As previously reported by SteelRadar, the groundbreaking ceremony for Amit Metaliks’ INR 4,000 crore integrated steel plant investment was scheduled to take place on August 17, 2026. With the latest development, the company has completed the groundbreaking phase of the project as planned.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone on August 17 for the new integrated steel production plant to be established by Amit Metaliks Ltd. in Raghunathpur, Purulia district.

The plant, which will be developed with an investment of approximately INR 4,000 crore, is planned to have an annual steel production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes. The project is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs, with commercial operations targeted to begin in 2029.

The new plant will include a pellet plant, direct reduced iron (DRI) units, a rolling mill, SEAF, forging and brick production units, as well as a 145 MW power plant.

The project is also planned to include waste heat recovery-based electricity generation, zero liquid discharge, water recycling, gas cleaning facilities and applications for the reuse of slag.

Various ministers from the West Bengal government also attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The ceremony coincided with the 100th day in office of the BJP government in the state.

Amit Metaliks, the flagship company of Amit Alliance, operates within a group active in the steel, mining and infrastructure sectors, with annual revenue reportedly standing at around INR 2,000 crore.
