Fire at Nakayama Steel Works facility halts hot strip and plate production

According to the company’s September 16 statement, the fire started at approximately 02:50 on Saturday, September 12, and was extinguished at 03:20. Some power cables belonging to heating furnace equipment and other plant equipment were damaged in the fire. The cause of the incident remains under investigation. No fatalities or injuries were reported.

Following the fire, operations at the hot strip and plate rolling mill were temporarily suspended, while various production lines in downstream processes continued to operate normally.

Nakayama Steel Works stated that the supply source for the damaged cables has largely been identified, but assessing the condition of the heating furnace and other equipment will take time.

The company said it will make the necessary announcements regarding developments related to the restart of production and any significant impact on its financial results.
