The Association presented a total of 36 awards in 5 different categories to 29 firms that provided the greatest contribution to this success and signed off on exports totaling over USD 2 billion in 2025. Speaking at the Aegean Export Record Awards Ceremony organized under the sponsorship of İzmir Demir Çelik Sanayi A.Ş., Aegean Exporters' Associations Coordinator Vice President and Association President Yalçın Ertan emphasized that the sector continues to contribute to the national economy with its production power and export potential. Ertan emphasized that they demonstrate a strong presence on a global scale thanks to a wide product range, the ability to access different markets, and rapid adaptation to changing conditions.
2025 targets exceeded despite challenging conditions
Drawing attention to the fact that 2025 was a year when demand followed a weak course on a global scale, financing opportunities narrowed, and increasing protectionist trends in trade limited the room for maneuver in exports, Ertan emphasized that domestic cost pressures and sensitivities in economic balances necessitated managing production and export processes more carefully.
Expressing that the USD 2.2 billion target set at the beginning of the year was exceeded despite all these challenges, Ertan emphasized that 2025 was completed with USD 2 billion 591 million in exports. Stating that this performance demonstrated the resilience of the sector, Ertan emphasized that the capacity utilization rate remained at the 62.4% level and that the existing production power isnt fully utilized.
Pressures continue despite increase in crude steel production
Relaying that Türkiye’s crude steel production was realized as 38.1 million tons annually, Ertan emphasized that a 3.3% increase occurred compared to the previous year. He emphasized that achieving an increase in production despite weakness in global demand, price pressure, high energy costs, and tightness in access to financing showed that the sector maintained its production capability.
Global developments and green transformation process
Stating that wars in the nearby geography created negative effects on energy prices and supply chains, Ertan emphasized that this situation increased costs while making planning processes more sensitive.
Emphasizing that regulations implemented by the European Union within the scope of combating climate change started a new adaptation process for the sector, Ertan emphasized that making production processes more sustainable became more important along with carbon-focused applications. In this context, stating that renewable energy use and efficiency-increasing investments became a priority, Ertan emphasized that they, as the Association, carry out activities to develop the sustainability capacities of firms through training and EU projects.
Yalçın Ertan hands over his duty with a 152% export increase
Preparing to hand over the presidency at the general assembly to be held in April, Yalçın Ertan also evaluated his 8-year term of office at the ceremony. Stating that they moved the export volume, which was USD 1 billion 28 million in 2018, to USD 2 billion 591 million at the end of 2025 with a 152% increase, Ertan emphasized that they achieved a significant success as an association during this process.
