Steel producers operating within the European region started to campaign to support the provision of CO2 neutrality. Accordingly, on 14 March, the EU Commission will present the "Net Zero Industry Law", which addresses potential CO2 savings in the industrial field.
Niedersachsens Prime Minister Stephan Weil and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, after their meeting on the law, which is expected to be presented on March 14, stated that "If Germany weakens, Europe will not be able to remain strong. The important thing is not that rich countries get richer, but that they can increase their productivity".
The Prime Minister of Niedersachsens continued his statements with the following words: "Without broad-based and as complete industrial production as possible, Europe will be too weak to compete with the USA and China in the long run. At the global level, we are increasingly experiencing the duel between the USA and China, and the question arises: Where is Europe?"
During the meeting, it was discussed that the high energy prices caused by the war in Ukraine and the energy-consuming industries, especially the steel industry, should be supported in the transition to CO2 neutrality.
