DRI smelting furnace to be used commercially for the first time
As part of the project, the SL/RN Xtra rotary kiln pellet direct reduction process will be integrated with a 30 MVA Metso DRI smelting furnace. The system will also include a unit enabling the hot charging of direct reduced iron into the smelting furnace.
Under the scope of supply, Metso will provide basic and equipment engineering, equipment supply and consulting services.
The company stated that the project represents the first commercial-scale delivery of its DRI smelting furnace technology. The system is designed to convert leaching residues into hot metal and utilize the by-streams generated at the facility.
Metal recovery to expand at the Mazıdağı facility
At Eti Bakır’s Mazıdağı facility, cobalt, nickel, manganese, iron and copper are recovered from pyrite concentrate brought from Küre. In addition to metal recovery operations, the complex also produces fertilizers.
Metso has previously carried out technology and equipment projects for Eti Bakır’s Mazıdağı facility, covering beneficiation, calcination, gas cleaning, sulfuric acid and metal recovery leaching plants.
Metso has not yet provided information on the project’s commissioning date or its annual iron production capacity.
