POSCO to invest USD 359 million in new automotive steel facility

New line to start operations in 2028

According to POSCO, the facility, scheduled for completion by 2028, will have an annual production capacity of 450,000 mt of hot dip galvanized steel for use in automotive outer panels.

The new facility will be POSCO’s eighth continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at its integrated steelworks in Gwangyang. The seven existing CGLs in Gwangyang have a combined annual production capacity of 4.5 million mt.

Galvanized steel capacity to reach 4.95 million mt

Once the new line begins operations, POSCO’s total annual production capacity for hot dip galvanized steel will increase from 4.5 million mt to 4.95 million mt.

POSCO Chairman Lee Hee-geun stated that the investment aims to strengthen the company’s future competitiveness in the rapidly changing global steel ecosystem. Lee added that the new automotive steel facility will improve the company’s competitiveness against its rivals in terms of production costs and technological capabilities.
