Egypt will open seven applied technology schools for the steel industry in collaboration with Ezz Steel and Danieli

Egypt will launch seven Applied Technology Schools dedicated to the steel industry in the 2026/2027 academic year through a partnership between Ezz Steel and Italian steel technology company Danieli. Announced by Egypt's Ministry of Education and Technical Education, the initiative aims to strengthen the link between technical education and the evolving needs of the country's industrial sector.

Egypt will open seven applied technology schools for the steel industry in collaboration with Ezz Steel and Danieli

New schools will be established in the governorates of Alexandria, Suez, and Menoufia, offering specialized education in mechatronics and the steel industry. The project will be implemented as part of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education's strategy to expand applied technology education in cooperation with the private sector and international partners.

According to the ministry, the initiative aims to develop highly qualified technical professionals equipped with the technological knowledge and practical skills required by both local and international labor markets.

Combining classroom learning with hands-on industrial training

The Applied Technology Schools will follow an education model that integrates academic instruction with practical training conducted in real production environments. Students will receive education based on modern technical training systems and graduate with internationally recognized certificates, enabling them to enter the labor market with stronger professional qualifications.

The project brings together Egypt's Ministry of Education and Technical Education, one of the country's leading steel producers, Ezz Steel, and Italian engineering company Danieli, a global supplier of iron and steelmaking equipment and technologies.

Seven schools to operate across three governorates

The following schools are scheduled to begin operations in the 2026/2027 academic year:

Menoufia Governorate

  • Al-Sadat School
  • Menouf School

Suez Governorate

  • Al-Salam School
  • Al-Mostaqbal School
  • 24 October School

Alexandria Governorate

  • Al-Wardian School
  • Moharam Bek School

Part of Egypt's strategy to expand technical education

The new schools are being launched as part of the expansion of Egypt's Applied Technology Schools (ATS) model, introduced in 2018. Operating in line with international standards, these schools combine general education, technical specialization, and practical training through a competency-based education system.

The programs cover a wide range of sectors, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, industrial automation, logistics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, engineering, textiles, and steel.

According to ministry data, approximately 1 million students were enrolled in 1,811 technical schools across Egypt during the 2024/2025 academic year. During the same period, the number of Applied Technology Schools reached 105, while an additional 1,270 schools are planned to be converted into either Applied Technology Schools or dual education institutions.

Egypt-Italy cooperation in technical education expands

The new Ezz Steel schools also form part of a broader technical education partnership between Egypt and Italy. In November 2025, the two countries signed cooperation protocols to establish 89 new Applied Technology Schools across various technical disciplines.

As part of the same initiative, 26 Egypt-Italy Applied Agricultural Technology Schools, developed in cooperation with ITSAgro Academy and the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development, are also expected to begin admitting students across 14 governorates in the 2026/2027 academic year.
