EAEU countries intend to develop cooperation in metallurgy and scrap processing

The seminar covered the issues and future prospects of the ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal market, the most effective environmental and energy-saving technologies used in the metallurgical industry, and new opportunities and challenges for Union businesses in the context of the global climate agenda, taking into account the implementation of carbon taxes by other nations. The current situation may serve as a catalyst for the EAEU countries' climate change agenda and the creation of an import substitution system under the current technological landscape.

However, the carbon intensity of industrial enterprises in the EAEU is still quite high, and the transition to new production technologies is slow for a variety of reasons. Currently, measures are being developed in Union countries to decarbonize the main economic sectors. In this regard, experts emphasize that the union countries' combined efforts can give the development of the "greening" of the metallurgical industry a real boost. Companies from the EAEU countries, primarily those from Kazakhstan and Russia, are also actively involved in the development, discussion, and application of new global climate change prevention mechanisms.
