Corinth Pipeworks secures steel pipe order exceeding 200 km in Greece

Corinth Pipeworks secures steel pipe order exceeding 200 km in Greece

Cenergy Holdings announced that Corinth Pipeworks has secured a major order from Greece’s Natural Gas Transmission System Operator DESFA for the “Duplication of the Karperi–Komotini High-Pressure Pipeline” project.

Under the contract, Corinth Pipeworks will manufacture and supply more than 200 km of 30-inch helical submerged arc welded (HSAW) steel line pipes.

The pipes will be manufactured at the company’s facilities in Thisvi, Greece. They will feature an external three-layer polyethylene (3LPE) coating for corrosion protection and an internal epoxy lining.

New pipeline to span 218.5 km

The project involves the construction of a new 218.5 km high-pressure transmission pipeline running parallel to the existing line. The new pipeline is intended to alleviate capacity constraints in the northern section of Greece’s National Natural Gas Transmission System and increase the system’s transmission capacity and flexibility.

The project is also expected to strengthen regional interconnections and support export capacity through the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB).

Pipeline to be 100% hydrogen-ready

One of the key features of the new pipeline is that it will be designed for hydrogen transportation. According to the statement, the system will have the technical specifications required to support the transportation of 100% pure hydrogen.

In addition to steel pipes for the energy sector, Corinth Pipeworks produces steel hollow sections used in the construction industry. The company operates under Cenergy Holdings.

DESFA is responsible for the operation, management and development of Greece’s National Natural Gas System.
