CISA proposes relaxation of measures to control exports

The China Iron and Steel Industry Association (CISA) has recommended the government to relax measures to control exports of steel by subdividing export tariff codes (HS codes), and reimbursement of value-added taxes on exports of high value-added goods relative to Japan. The proposal aims to strengthen its international competitiveness by promoting the export of value-added products.

China's steel demand has remained stagnant under its zero-COVID policy and exports are therefore expected to increase.

The Japan Steel Federation gave a briefing on the supply and demand situation on March 27, 2022. During the briefing, Yutaka Shimizu, Chairman of the Supply and Demand Research Committee, emphasized that steel exports are shifting to high value-added products, while general purpose exports are shifting to high value-added products.
