China's manufacturing PMI drops for the first time since April 2020

Manufacturing sector activity in China contracted for the first time since April last year, falling below 50 points.

China's manufacturing PMI drops for the first time since April 2020

The manufacturing sector PMI, prepared by Caixin, fell to 49.2 points in August from 50.3 points in July.

Economists had expected the manufacturing PMI to be 50.2 points in August. Yesterday, the manufacturing PMI prepared by the National Bureau of Statistics was at 50.1 points.

The fact that the new export orders sub-index fell below 50 points for the first time since February and the employment sub-index pointed to a contraction for the first time in 5 months was effective in the Caixin manufacturing PMI's contraction.

Copper prices declined with the slowdown in manufacturing sector activity.

The price of 3-month copper in LME declined to $9,430 per ton earlier in the day and is currently at $9,444 per ton, down 0.85 percent compared to yesterday.

October copper futures price on the Shanghai Futures Exchange fell 0.9 percent to 69,550 yuan per head.

Aluminum price in LME this morning also fell 0.1 percent compared to yesterday. Aluminum price in Shanghai also decreased by 0.9 percent to 21,140 yuan per ton.
